what is a wolfdog?

right this may be a really stupid question, not trying to start any arguments, just interested in what we think our dogs should be called


what do think the dog is when you see these words to describe it ?

1. wolf hybrid

2. wolfdog

3. wolf look a like

4. wolfalike

5. hybrid

6. cross breed

7. mongrel

8. Inuit dog

9. husky

this is what I see the words meaning, just my opinion would love to know what others think,

1. wolf hybrid, I see as a cross between a wolf and a dog up to F3, although wolf and dog are the same species, and wolfdog can mean the same.

2. wolfdog, not sure about this one as some say as this means the same as wolf hybrid, but the Saarloos and CSV are breeds of dogs. To me wolfdog means a dog with some recent wolf content.

3. wolf look a like, something that looks like a wolf

4. wolfalike, something that is like a wolf

5. hybrid, a cross between two different types or species

6. cross breed, same as hybrid

7. mongrel, cross breed of many, mixed unknown breeds

8. Inuit dog, Sled dog breed of the Inuit people

9. husky, working sled dog, dog of mixed sled dog breeds

im not a fan of the word hybrid as it means cross species (ie wolf x giraffe )
i think wolfdog better describes the crossings of wolf and dog

i dont like the term wolf-dog when used with a 'dog breed' like the csv,it imo makes people think they are a wolf cross dog rather than a domestic dog.
i would like it changed (as they did for the g.s.d) and the term vlack used as it means Alsatian/wolf-dog and would help regarding prejudices.
hybrid...annoying imo shouldn't be used
husky .. should only apply to Siberians (Alaskan husky is the official term of a mixed sled dog dog suppose n.i's could be called Alaskans )
Inuit dog?.....erm aren't they sibes and working sled dog breeds?
crossbreed... 2 breeds of dog crossed
mongrel....mix of many breeds some unknown.

quite likely to be a mix of several different breeds, sold to a fool as a cross between a wolf and a domestic dog for a ridiculous amount of money.

Saarloos or CSV

... a crossbreed or mongrel that bears resemblance to a wolf.

4. wolfalike

... See above

5. hybrid

.. I'd laugh at the owner...

6. cross breed

Offspring of two different dog breeds

7. mongrel

Offspring of two differing crossbreeds [or mongrels obviously].

8. Inuit dog

NID or a dog with that background that for some reason isn't registered

9. husky

... Errr.. A Husky!
